The Sing Chang Koi Farm is a specialist breeder of premium quality Koi, maintaining the first element of the chain of custody.
As a registered Koi farm, the farm is subject to strict breeding and export regulations. Continuous screening for major sicknesses by government veterinarians takes place every other month (every second month) and with every shipment.
The concept of the chain of custody involves all parties in the supply chain - from breeder to reseller to koishop and end-customer - to perform health checks on the point of entry and exit of the fish. E.g. A wholesaler would check the fish he receives for sicknesses and also when the fish are getting resold.
As the first element in this chain we are testing every single shipment intended for export in our shipment quarantine tanks. The following sicknesses are checked: SVC, IHN, VHS, KHV.
Government registered Koi farms are required by law to subject every export shipment to the health checks mentioned above. The procedure involves a government veterinarian visit the farm and selecting sample fish from the export tanks holding the shipment. Thereafter these samples are tested and health certificates issued stating the results.
Every health certificate shows the registration number of the registered Koi farm on it. The original health certificate is always sent out together with the shipment. Supply-chain members can use the registration number to verify test results stated on the health certificate they receive with each shipment. More information can be found at www.taiwankoi.com.
Please note, that the paperwork, scheduling and testing of the fish takes 2 weeks.
